Hi! everyone....
Today, I'm not going to write something that related to strategic management but I want to share my experience instead.

topic 10&11: building an organization capable of good strategy execution & managing internal operation

alhamdulillah, alhamdulillah, alhamdulillah~
thanks to Allah, everything was going fine

To be honest, for this two topics I can't really remember what I've learnt on that day :( maybe because I'm not feeling very well ... but the interesting part of the lecture was....THE PERSONALITY TEST-
Myers Brigss Type Indicator (MBTI)

'mine is INFP!'

This indicator really helpful in determine job scope than relevant and suitable to our identity^^
From the test I can see that something that related to art and social services is really suitable to me. As for me, I really hate to work with something that have limited time, and I'm sure when it comes to work like handcraft, sewing, crocheting, and handmade card, I'm totally into it! I can stay without sleep for the whole night just to finish it^^----> quite different for study/do revision -.-

For chapter 10, I've learnt that a good strategy execution really requires a team effort. All managers have strategy-executing responsibility in their areas of authority, and all employees are active participants in the execution process.
For chapter 11, I believe the more that organizational units use best practices in performing their work, the closer a company comes to achieving effective and efficient strategy execution.

One thing that I remembered about that lecture was Miss Ummi said that she had been given a chance before this to be a PTD, but she refused after a really tough test because she chose USIM instead!
thanks Miss Ummi, maybe it was the fate that already planned by Allah, He wants us to meet and He wants you to share your KNOWLEDGE & LOVE <3

Another thing that I want to share today is lately I went to MARDI to learn a little bit about our enactus project with my friends. What I've learnt on that day is the theory is REALLY DIFFERENT from the real life. It means that study environment is much greater than the work environment. So, now I have to prepare myself. Scaaaaaaaaarry...

no lecture, no tutorial ?!

I don't know what should I post for this entry since there is no lecture and tutorial, but we were asked to participate in the strategic management forum. Then, I realized there is no folder for the forum, it does not open yet. what should I post? hmmmm...
haa!! why don't I share a little bit about my enactus club program ,team building. It is seriously fun!
-^^-
I think it should be shared with you guys since it relate to this subject.
1st DAY: Business Canvas
the team building was held in PD sanctuary and my friend and I have to wake up early in the morning since will start our journey before 7.00 a.m (based on the plan) but after we were all ready, there was no bus at all on that time -.-    -------keep waiting
I extremely feel hungry on that time,,,,,please give me some food!
then, not so long after that we saw the bus was coming and the most important part was we got food on the bus.-----okay, I think we should keep the common part
move to the business canvas!
After we reached at the destination, we were given three group which are banana, bambusia and eco-tourism. At first, I've found that the eco-tourism company will be the most interesting project to be joined, but suddenly the group was crowded with a lot of male members. So, I decided not to go for it. Then, the banana group was joined by a lot of female members and I think there is no places for my friends and I in the project and lastly we decided to go for the bambusia project. what is bambusia? it is called for the baby bamboo. the bambusia is actually an food innovation made by a group of biotech students from FST. So, our objective is to help them commercialize the product and at the same time we are helping the 'orang asli' by asking them to provide the baby bamboo for the team. we are facing a lot of problem since we only get to see the production after one year but we have to present this project in May next year. Before discuss about the project, we were teach by Sir Mahdir about the business canvas. There are nine box in the tools, it can help us to determine the potential of the business and what should we do to catalyst and boost the business.
I do really think on that time that this tools also can help me to understand business more and the same time helps for my final exam.

Do you curious to know what is the story behind this bag?
there is a story behind this bag, a life of a women who was very poor and desperately need money to survive. In her village, every women had to sell their bodies and live in prostitution just to have a meal per day. she refuse to involve in that kind of immoral activities. On that time she also able to make a bag by using gunny sack. so, she have CHOICES! Then she decide to get out of that world and live by selling the bag. there is nothing special about that bag, but then she put the story of her life in that bag. (can you see the green tag on the bag? ) The bag suddenly bought by many people.

2nd DAY: outDOOR activities

On the second day, we were doing two activities which were crafting and explorace. I got a lot of interesting experience in this second day especially about team building. We are striving together in crafting and we made it. WE WON! It was really exhausting when we had to pedal the "handmade rakit",hee,,,
A good leader can lead you to SUCCESS, but he needs support from his follower to make the SUCCESS become true ^^

these are some pictures from me to be shared with you..
its not only the sadness should be shared but HAPPINESS as well^^

this picture was taken when we were playing explorace, on that time we had to fill up a big bottle with water by using straw.---------haswani's group

haa...this is my group!----with afifah <ana lulu>
I'm really suffered with the taste of the "SHARING" water..yuckss!

this is when we were waiting the "ketupat palas" to cooked.
'Pak cik~ dah masak ke?'

this is when we are striving to make the oil palm leaves become a beautiful mat^^
seriously it was hard to get "PASS" from judge on that time-----with waznah!

argghhh.....its too hard, poor boys -.-

okay, that's all for this entry, taataa : D

topic 8: corporate culture

Hai, guys! opps! for this time why don't we start with '' assalamualaikum'' ^^ ( for more blessing)
for this entry I won't share about corporate culture but more to what actually happened during my tutorial class, to be sure it is seriously fun!
on that day, we were still finishing up the TOWS tool by using the case study of  1901 company, a successful hot dog company in Malaysia, ~but i never try it out yet... ---makes me hungry  :(

we were explained by mdm. huda about how the company can be so successful after facing a lot of challenge, but we also can understand and find all the strength, weakness, threats, and also opportunities by ourselves------------------BY USING TOWS ANALYSIS!
that is the reason why we have to study strategic management subject, its really helps you in using all the condition to boost the business, even weakness can be the company strength. to be honest this subject is really exciting but we have to read a lot and for someone who 'not really' love to read books, its kind of hard, hmmm.. ( but I do love read comics~ <3 ~)

I've found it interesting when mdm huda and miss ummi were sharing their experiences and do some activities in the class. Do you know that I extremely love colorful things? (but please not clothes -.-)
when mdm huda introduced to us how to make study cases more interesting by using the colorful sticky notes, somehow it makes the laziness get out of me-- since I thought it as an "ART" ?!

we were also talk about a Thai movie--- TOP SECRET aka THE BILLIONAIRE, it was about how a boy who only 18 years old can be a successful entrepreneur and it is based on a real story and even you can find his seaweed products in 7Eleven. I've watch the movie once during my semester break last year on Citra. I really think that eveeeeeeeeeryone should watch the movie, it really can inspired you ^^----- guaranteed!
I really LOVE this movie, but the real owner really has a good looks, hee,, sory just joking ok--even it is true..haha

This is the movie

jengjengjeng...this the REAL OWNER! quite young right?

so, I guess that's all for today -^^-
should I explain about the corporate culture?
maybe next time~lalalala

Sharing Moment! O-Shima Restaurant

Hi guys! this week I really need to update my blog, since i realize that keep delaying our work will not make us feel comfortable but BURDEN!
In this week there is no lecture but it replaced by a sharing moment with O-Shima Restaurant and there is no tutorial session in this week too. The MC for the sharing moment was Arep Malik and Zainul Akmal as the Du'a reciter, it was funny actually when we can see that Zainul was very nervous when he recited the du'a. Mazidah and I almost burst into laugh but we just hold it in (but our body was shivering because of that :),hee sorry Zainul-------feeling guilty :'(    but I can feel that if I'm in his position on that time maybe I can't say a word! at least he still have the confident right?
The talk specially given by the owner of O-Shima Restaurant, Mrs. Asnidar Hanim Yusuf.

She had degree in engineering in Japan, Master in the same field but now she's pursue her studies in USIM in other field which is BUSINESS. She should be of the person we have to admire because she's really brave to tried something different from what she's good at (of course engineering).  The way she started the business was quite unique because she started from BIG, but it is the mistakes or failure that brought her to be a good entrepreneur. What makes this restaurant different from other Japanese restaurant? She said that they only served halal food in her restaurant with no non-halal ingredient involved. Do you know that I'm one of  the anime fans and also Japanese drama? YES! I do! In every Japanese movie or drama, you can see that they are usually having 'sake' with their family and friends, that is how they make their relationship stronger. The parents or the elders will pour the 'sake' to the younger one but they have to pass their minor age first, after that the younger one also have to pour the sake too after that, but you can find that they way they pour and received it are different based on their age and status.

'SAKE' or pronounced as 'sah-keh' is one the alcoholic drink in Japan and they also served this alcohol in the sushi restaurant.
So, in order to follow the Shariah, they execute the sake from their menu and tried to get the halal certificate from the JAKIM. They can ensure that their food free from any non-halal ingredient but one of the challenge she faced in this industry is the supplier refuse to get the halal certificate since they think it as something that is not so important. When the Japanese supplier realized that the halal certificates can bring many benefits to their country like it can attract more tourist to come to Japan, they started to applied for the halal certificate but they charge high to those who make business with them. That also another challenge that she had to face. From the sharing moment I got a lot of information about the reality of business is extremely outside the textbook and in every success there is always 'SACRIFICE' and 'FAILURE', but just like Mrs. Asnidar said, we have to keep positive! Okay, let's take a look on these few picture on the sharing moment with O-Shima Restaurant. ~credit to our beloved Miss Ummi ^^

Updating! assignment: GENERIC STRATEGIES

topic 7: Strategies for Competing in International Market

Hoho! this topic is SUPERB interesting, you know why?
because we're watching a lot of videos regarding to this topic. You won't be sleepy in this week, seriously!
seriously, when I saw one of my favorite Taiwanese actor in one of the McDonald commercial ads in Taiwan, it makes me more interested to this topic.

We learnt that McDonald applied a GOOD strategies in their company (even though I hate it!), because they are very particular about their customer cultures. Based on the video we watched before, their commercial ads also different based on the common and culture of the country. In Japan, they are focusing on anime or kids and also free gift. For example, Kamen Rider.

While in Taiwan, there are using celebrities in their commercial ads like Wang Lee Hom and Jolin Tsai

In Korea, they are focusing on celebrities as well. For example, Song Hye Kyo.

but in Malaysia there are focusing on family eccentric and collective. so that's why we can see trough their commercial in Malaysia is about sharing the happiness between family and friends. Proud to be Malaysian!

topic 6: Strengthening a Company's Competitive Position

Hoola! In this Sixth topic for this subject we are going to learn about BLUE-OCEAN STRATEGY. What is the meaning behind the word blue ocean? wanna know?hee,,

Do you know that our government already applied this strategy in Malaysia? Lately, when I was searching in Mr. Google explorer (hihi..) about the Blue-Ocean Strategy, I've found that there are several programs and activities under government which they called them as NBOS. The activities are

topic 5: The Five Generic Competitive Strategies

Hi, guys! Now we have to move to the next topic which about five generic competitive strategies. In this topic we learnt the strategic used by each companies, but before that I want to show you a feature to show the five generic competitive strategies.

Actually this great strategy was introduced by Michael Porter. He believes that strategies allow organizations to gain competitive advantage from three different bases : cost leadership, differentiation, and focus. During this lecture Miss Ummi tried something different in her teaching. What is the different from the usual? hmmm...she's using our mobile as a medium to answer the question regarding the topic. Unique and interesting right? haaha..but unfortunately I can't join the activity in the lecture because my phone battery was already empty on that time. so, I'm just helping my friend answered the question. One of the knowledge that I gain from the lecture was Air Asia used the low-cost strategy to make their company success. Instead of being like MAS who provides the high quality service for their customer, Air Asia offers their interesting tagline "now everyone can fly". It means that even someone who are not wealthy or just common person like me can travel everywhere by plane. Ha! I forgot to tell you that my Strategic Management tutor is one of the strategist for Air Asia in their early opening. that's all, bye! ^^,

topic 4: Evaluating a Company's Resources, Capabilities, and Competitiveness

I guess I have to update my blog since I totally forgot about it. sorry....maybe I do have a lot of assignments to do, but wait..this BLOG also one of the assignment assign to all students! I'm not suppose to forget about it. Once again, I'm terribly sorry Miss! :(
okay, can we start now? Actually I don't know what should I write since Miss told us not to make notes on our entry.  I think during lecture she shared with us about something which related to the topic but i can't remember it. hee,,
do you know one of the tool that we can use to improve a company problem is SWOT. S stands for strength, stands for weakness, O stands for opportunities, and T stands for threats

This tools can clearly shows us the capabilities and the weakness, so that the company can overcome it. During tutorial on the next week with Mdm.Huda, we tried to applied the tools in the study case of Ambang Mata Sdn Bhd together. By doing that, we can clearly see the weakness of the company. The company's problem is they manage the company traditionally and they are not in line with the current technology. I also do a survey on their website and I realize that they have to hire a new graphic designer because their book's cover are not interesting at all except for their children magazine, aulad. I can't wait to study TOWS on the next topic! Why? because this tool helps us to make the weakness become an opportunity.

topic 3: Evaluating a Company's External Environment

today i'll continue with the next topic, which is quite hard but in a POSITIVE way we can call it as INTERESTING! (  i cant believe that i say this, hard = interesting?  )
let's start!

this mind map shows the components include in macro-environment but there is another principal which is..

each of the components has the chance to affects the firms.
now, I'm going to explain briefly about the
5 PORTER FORCES
This five forces is about the five important party which seriously hold the competitive pressures on companies within an industry.
now I'm gonna share some knowledge about the concept of industry driving forces.
DRIVING FORCES is the most powerful of the change agents. this is because they have the biggest  influences in reshaping the industry landscape and altering competitive conditions. Driving forces analysis has three steps:
  1. identify what the driving forces are
  2. assess whether the drivers of change are, on the whole, acting to make the industry more or less attractive
  3. determine what strategy  changes are needed to prepare for the impacts of the driving forces

to identify an industry's driving forces we have to check the categories
  • changes in an industry's long term growth rate
  • increasing globalization
  • emerging new internet capabilities and applications
  • changes in who buys the product and how they use it
  • technological change and manufacturing process innovation
  • product and marketing innovation
  • entry and exit of major firms
  •  diffusion of technological know-how across companies and countries
  •  changes in cost and efficiency
  • reductions in uncertainty and business risk
  • regulatory influences and government policy changes
  • changing societal concerns, attitudes, and lifestyles
but there are so many drivers of industry change but these categories are the common drivers in industry.

topic 2: the Business Vision and Mission

Okay, this time I'm very sorry to Miss Ummi for keep postponing my entry although this week we gonna learn another new topic. I'm extremely sorry :'(

START!

vision refers to "WHAT DO WE WANT TO BECOME?"
It should be in short and preferable in one sentence. Managers also have to put some input into developing the statement.

 mission statement.....

the characteristics of the mission are :
  1. a good mission allows for the generation and consideration of a range of feasible alternative objectives and strategies without unduly stifling management creativity.
  2. mission needs to be BROAD to reconcile differences effectively among, and appeal to, and organization's diverse stakeholders
next, the components

 can you read it?

WHAT IS THE IMPORTANCE OF MISSION AND VISION?
  1. To ensure the united of purpose within the org.
  2. To provide a basis, or standard, for allocate org resources
  3. To establish a general tone or org climate
  4. To serve as a focal point for individuals to identify with the org's purpose and direction.
  5. To facilitate the translation of obj into a work structure
  6. To specify org purpose

I seriously cant remember all the things, so it seems like I have to make a note for this subject..huuuu
pleaseeeee let me remember and UNDERSTAND!

thanks to Mazidah Hassan,Haswani Hainuddin and kak Syazana Nordin (my housemate) for accompany me finishing this entry.
thanks dear ^^ wink*

Topic 1: The Nature of Strategic Management

oh! my new entry- more educational this time (I guess,huhu.. )
Strategic? Strategy? Does it important? the answer is YUP!
can we start our class now?? (act like a teacher, ^ ^)

It is absolutely not easy for an organization to success and achieve their objectives without any strategy. What they need is "ART" !
the art of

yes! these three points (stages) are very important for you to SUCCESS
"strategic management is sometime defines as "strategic planning", but both are different.
strategic management refers to strategy formulation, implementation and evaluation, but strategic planning only refers to strategy formulation. Next is..

Strategic management really helps organization formulate better strategies through the use of a systematic, logical, and rational approach to strategic choice. The real secret for a success strategic management is ~COMMUNICATION~
Trough dialogue and participation, managers and employees can together support the organization. so, it shows that the bond between the employees and superiors are very important to build and develop a strong and successful organization. : )

FiRst LeCTuRE!

After a long holiday, the new semester with a new determination comes!
I'm gonna miss my parents a lot, but the most important is to study and carry out the duty as a good servant, a good daughter and a good student as well ^^

jengjengjeng....
A sweet looking lady stepped in the class, so she must be our lecturer (my own thought,hehe..)
she is so active! but it can be scary if she begins to ask question and walk around with the cordless mic..
phew...if you are not being asked -.-

Her name is Ummi Salwa, a nice name. We called her as Miss Ummi, she is the reason why I created this blog. (quite complicated at the beginning but its fun!), thanks to her ^^

This week we did not start to learn yet, but we played a 'TOWER' game. We were asked to make a group of  thirteen and get a newspaper.

In my group, there are only 9 members but we determined to win. haha...
Cik Ada (my friend) , she has already played this game before. So, we get the SPIRIT!
~ganbatte~

We tried our best, but in happy. We built the base for our newspaper tower. We divided the tasks to each member, so that everyone participate and feel the excitement of teamwork. woo~
We have only 15 minutes to build the highest tower made up of the newspaper given. When we had to bring the tower in front of the class, it suddenly collapsed!!!!!!!
We do not give up! We still tried to fix it in a second. then, DONE!
At that time, we kind of frustrated because other group towers are sooooo TALL!
hmmm... :(

When Miss Ummi examined the strength of the tower, the higher tower appears not necessarily strong but it is easier to fall. All towers collapsed immediately after checked. Our tower is the only remaining tower. All group members are very concerned if our tower collapsed but it was very strong and sturdy. Thanks for the hard work and teamwork, we picked as the 'WINNER'.

Alhamdulillah~ thanks to you too my Lord, Allah ^^
